Evelyn Stock

Picture
Evelyn began four decades of involvement in a broad number of community organizations after she and her husband and two-year-old daughter moved to Scarsdale in 1970 ,. What was most unusual is that she would often be heading more than one organization at the same time. The organizations she served as president include Heathcote PTA, the Leagues of Women Voters of Scarsdale, Westchester and New York State , the Scarsdale Board of Education, the Westchester Putnam School Boards Association, and Southern Westchester (BOCES).. She chaired the Westchester Women's Advisory Board, and served on the board of the Committee for Modern Courts., the Scarsdale Planning Board, the Scarsdale Town and Village Civic Club as vice president, and vice president and secretary of the Westchester Reform Temple. She has led several leadership workshops, made presentations on government, facilitated school board retreats, and taught at the WCC Collegium.

Presently, she is chair of the Westchester Fair Campaign Practices Committee, having served as a member for the last 20 years, is a member of the Scarsdale Foundation, the Village of Scarsdale Board of Ethics, the board of the Scarsdale Adult School, having served for two years as its co-chair, the Administrative Committee for the School Board Nominating Committee, and several advisory committees.

Evelyn's trademark is identifying and nurturing future leaders. She is most proud that many Westchester women name her as their mentor.

Her honors include Westchester Woman of the Year, Westchester Hall of Fame, Scarsdale Bowl, the Westchester Community College Medallion Award for Community Service, the NYS School Boards Association Everettt Dyer Award for Distinguished Service, and the Westchester Reform Temple Men's Club Brotherhood Award.

She credits her family for supporting and encouraging her community work, first her parents, immigrants who instilled their commitment to education and the American dream, and her late husband, Dr. Howard Stock, and their two daughters, Elisabeth Stock and Andrea Spaar.

Her "other life" includes books clubs, opera ,baking (she has taught baking classes). theater, movies, bridge, her grandchildren, and the best friends, many of whom she met through her volunteer activities.
