Women's Hall of Fame (WHOF)
The Women's Hall of Fame was established 27 years ago by Camille Failla Murphy, then run by the Executive Director of the Westchester County Office for Women, before taken over in 2012 by WREF. The annual Women's Hall of Fame event was held on March 30 in 2012. March is Women's History Month, and therefore an ideal time to honor a woman who has made an impact on the history of women in Westchester County. This year, the winner is Janet DiFiore, Westchester County District Attorney.
The Women's Hall of Fame award is presented to a woman who has made an outstanding contribution to Westchester County in any one or more of the following fields: the arts, athletics, business, education, government, human services, humanitarianism/philanthropy and sciences. Each year, the award is presented at the Westchester County Women's Hall of Fame and Scholarship Awards Luncheon, in the month of March in observance of Women's History Month.
Your submission(s) will be presented to a committee which will screen the nominees, all of whom must be women who live in or have lived in Westchester County and are U.S. citizens. Nomination Form (pdf)
The following criteria will be used:
1. Has she made significant and measurable contributions to the progress of Westchester women or to their efforts to achieve equal status?
2. Was she a "first" in her field? (The selection panel will take this into consideration, but it should not be the most significant factor)
3. How lasting are her achievements: i.e., do they have enduring value?
Following the screening process, the winner will be chosen by a selection panel composed of previous winners.
